Biography
Scotty Robertson married his high school sweetheart and is a father of three wonderful sons and has two beautiful grandsons. Scotty grew up in the desert of Phoenix, Arizona. As a young man his athletic focus was on baseball not golf, though he did pick up a golf club from time to time but showed little interest do to his inability to hit a long or straight shot. Throughout the baseball years Scotty stood out as an amazing pitcher ending his last season at the ‘All Star’ state finals, pitching his way to a record setting seventeen ‘strikeout’ game. Two days later, during batting practice, he broke his right hand and never returned to the game.
Golf was always something Scotty would play if invited by a friend but his incredible slice and lack of distance kept him from pursuing the sport. When he did play his ability was well below average. For more than twenty five years he would score in the 100’s on executive courses. Then one glorious day, at age thirty three while living in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio all that would change. On what Scotty calls a cow pasture driving range he accidentally discovered a new way of gripping the golf club. As he turned his top hand upside down out of frustration and swung at a ball a whole new world opened up. Like finding a key to a secret room Scotty stepped into a dream-like status of improvement. It boggled the mind and tickled the senses. It also began to gather him galleries. Suddenly overnight he had the ability to hit a golf ball longer and straighter than ever imagined. He went from an average drive of 170 yards to 320, and within six months had butchered off more than 50 strokes giving him a plus 2 handicap. The press heard of his incredible story and in little time he became hope to the weary golfer without ever trying.
One celebrity nicknamed Scotty the 'Dick Fosbury of golf'. Fosbury discovered a style of high jumping leading with shoulders over the bar which enabled him to jump higher than everyone else. Now the 'Fosbury Flop' is the standard technique of high jumping.
Scotty spent more than a decade sharing his find with the average golfer hoping to give others the same effect it had on him. It worked for many, but the road was long and tough. He left golf back in 2000 due to exhaustion.
Now at age 51, Scotty has put aside teaching and is on a quest to compete at the highest level. Over the years he has been called one of the best ball strikers in the world. He now says it is time to have fun and show the world just what is possible. His story and extreme change sets the stage for the biggest ‘underdog’ story any sport has seen since Fosbury himself.
